Chef Josh Hofert
Greetings all! I moved into the Eastside of Seattle area in 2021 all they way from Michigan. I’m excited to join the Honest to Goodness team and bring my eccentric flair to the PNW.
I’m a jack of all trades when it comes to passions. From playing guitar to designing clothing, writing and running tabletop games to amateur photography and video editing. I just love new experiences! Cooking is different though… cooking speaks to me.
I dove into cooking in 2013 after a life-changing visit to Haiti. I stayed for two weeks in a village working construction, making friends with locals, and eating as many different food as I could get my hands on. Up until this point cooking was just a hobby. I had never tasted food so “real” and new… and I’ve been chasing flavor ever since.
My cooking style is unique. I serve flavorful dishes that bring unexpected delight to your palate. I adore utilizing herbs, spices, vinegars, and other fragrant additions to enhance every meal. I haven’t been to culinary school. In fact, I went to college to pursue computer programming and video game design. I think the way it shaped my thinking has brought something special to my recipes and how I cross-utilize ingredients in fun ways.
Fast forward a couple years and I found myself in a “from scratch” brewery about 40 miles west of the University of Michigan. There I learned my French mother sauces, cooked for large groups in outdoor vineyards, smoked meats, baked fresh local sourdough, and so much more. After leaving, I spent time cooking for a local college and as an Executive Sous Chef for a major power and energy company’s corporate HQ dining hall (accommodating all types of diets and cuisine).
It was there that all my previous successes combined and I found a perfect job. It was a private café where became acquainted each of my guests. I prepared meals with my guests’ input and their vast diversity of diets. It was the most rewarding feeling getting to cater to someone’s personal tastes so well.
A fresh start brought me to the PNW and now I’m just so excited to serve this wonderful community.
